The Charity Commission has published updated guidance on fundraising for charities. The guidance is designed to help charities ensure fundraising activities comply with legal requirements and follow best practice.

The guide updates information on:

  • cc20.pngwhere specific legal requirements apply on how to fundraise
  • more detail on risk management of fundraising
  •  and advice for trustees on what to consider when choosing fundraising methods.

It sets out how the Commission's regulation of charity law operates in conjunction with self-regulation of fundraising and the "Codes of Fundraising Practice". The Commission highlights the value of the guide to trustees. Rosie Chapman of the Charity Commission:

"In order to ensure continued donations and public trust and confidence in their work, it is important that trustees are aware of both their legal responsibilities and good practice when carrying out fundraising activities. 'Charities and Fundraising' sets out the key issues that trustees should address in order to fundraise effectively, efficiently and legally."
