In with the New
With a New Year now round the corner, this month’s Wired magazine is speculating on the ideas and technologies that are most likely to disrupt our lives in 2011.
Chief among these is the idea of “cloud-living” - “a cultural shift in how we think about resources,” says Wired, where people choose to 'share' rather than own the things that support their daily lives.
We’ll be mining this theme in the coming weeks, starting with the idea of ‘cloud computing’.
In drifts the enterprise cloud
If you’re on top of your reading in this area you might already have come across the following: Enterprise Cloud Computing – a strategy guide for business and technology leaders (by Mulholland, Pyke and Fingar).
Published earlier this year, the book has met with some enthusiastic reviews, not least from the British Computer Society. But what exactly is cloud computing and why, as Wired suggests, might ‘the cloud’ be an idea whose time has come?
Enter Jon Pyke – author, technologist and entrepreneur
In the attached article one of the book’s co-authors, Jon Pyke, helps to answer these questions. It should give you pause for thought.
Why not download it now and tell us what you think? We’d be particularly keen to know what implications these ideas might have for you.
